Dawn Stofer

" There is perhaps no more complete a reality than a chair and a table " - Patrick White

This quote might be a better way of talking about paintings .

The following has been said of me:

“The paintings of Dawn Stofer are distinguished by their bold use of colour, simple composition and subtle implications of things going on which are not directly represented. They are still lives which allude to the actions of life. The references in these abstracted images, often with somewhat skewed perspectives, are drawn from her imagination and memories.”

This is what I say:

"They are the harvest of elements from my internal archives”

I studied fine art  at the University of Victoria in British Columbia and art and education at the University of Calgary in Alberta but more important personally was  meeting in London the late British painter Guy Roddon, who invited me to draw and paint in the south of France. An enduring influence, he was a dear friend and mentor who’s voice I still hear.

One more thing...

I have a cartoon blog for the wry amusement of minimalists.
